Most of us have some knowledge of the book of Proverbs and know that it contains many sayings (proverbs) which are intended for the guidance in the affairs of life. The purpose for the proverbs was given in Chapter 1:2-6. My purpose is not to comment on the proverbs in particular but to illustrate the importance of the theme of the book, “Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.” Proverbs 9:10 KJV. I believe that it should be the desire of every child of God to apply this principle to the studying of the Word of God. The apostle Peter instructs us to “grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.” 2 Peter 3:18 (KJV). I believe that we can only do this through the CAREFUL studying of his word. Jesus’ response to his critics, was, “search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me.” John 5:39 (NKJV).
I have the awareness that everyone is not able to read well, and that many are not able to understand the language of the King James Version which many of us still use in our churches today. However, we came to Christ by the hearing of faith, and if we would meditate on the word that we have heard, then surely “the entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple. Psalm 119:130 (KJV).
As one that called in the Five-fold Ministry as a teacher and has been commissioned by the Lord to "give my people understanding," I am troubled that there are so many misunderstood passages of scripture. We have to pray for understanding. From the springing fountain comes life and light and we shall never be in darkness again. Below, I will clarify a few misunderstood passages in the Bible.
Welcome to the Wellspring. What is the wellspring? It is a springing well, otherwise called a fountain. Within this well or fountain is found the Knowledge of the Holy One. Let me explain .“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding." Proverbs 9:10 (NKJV,NIV) Understanding is a wellspring of life to him who has it. Proverbs 16:22 (NKJV)
